In reply to Joseph. Joseph, there are 1001 havelis. Most of them are in good condition as they are just about 100 years old. However, not many of them are open so you can walk around and see them from outside only. Only a few are open to going inside or you need to find a local contact who has inside access. Half a day is good to see them, but it depends on you, how deeply you want to study them.

Loved this post. Always wanted to visit Bikaner. How many havelis ( i heard there were nearly a thousand) in reasonable condition would be there in that region and how many days would you need to see them? Would be obliged if you would let me know
