Sadly Kanheri caves were used for shooting Bolywood filmsongs. Film Sasural song Satale Aye Jahan , last stanza of Teri pyari pyari surat ko was picturised in Kanheri caves. The romantic song Tum Ruthi Raho ,Mai Manata Rahun from Film Aas Ka Panchi was shooted on Rajendra kumar Vaijayantimala in the Kanheri caves.

Vasai Fort, Sewri Fort, Bandra Fort and the Fort area of Mumbai are worth checking out!!! For a guidebook you do have one on the Kanheri Caves available at the tea stall next to the ticket window. Elephanta caves on the island with the same name is really worth visiting but the other caves at Mandapeshwar, Mahakali and Jogeshwari are some of the others within Mumbai city limits.

Just inform the ASI people and they will shoo away the film makers if they behave like that. I did the same with them when I was at Purana Qila in Old Delhi when some Emraan Hashmi film was being shot and the crew stopped me from entering at one end, finally complained to the ASI authorities on the site and asked them to behave with the public. The permission given to these film makers is that they cannot cordon off any area or prevent people from entering any area when they are shooting there during public visiting hours. That they manage to do that most of the times is because people are awed by the sight of film stars and give in to the orders of the bullying crew members.

Great stuff. I have spent my childhood visiting Kanheri and National park! Apart from this and Elephanta Caves which are famous, you should visit

1. Bassein Fort(Portuguese later captured by the Marathas), Vasai
2. Mandapeshwar, Mahakali Caves

There are plenty of smaller forts and temples built by the Marathas in the surrounding Sahyadri region.

Next time you are in Bombay, let me know.

Best,

Rishi
