Wow, this is an amazing blog which contains the story of Karni mata temple .It shows the epic history of this temple .I never heard about this place before , by your blog my curiosity to visit this place is getting high because i never heard of rats being treated with so much of love and carefulness. From your blog i also know about the charan caste .This is the best blog i have read ,it contains the lots of knowledge about kabas , caste , temple etc . Thnk you for the blog.

In reply to Ami Bhat. I know what you mean, Ami. I was very uncomfortable inside the temple because I am not an animal person at all. However, I had to see this temple for its sheer uniqueness. I did manage to see a white one, though still waiting for the effect of that :-)

I am not sure if I liked the place or not…the rats all over were crazy. I did not manage to see a white one but well…it was an experience alright!

In reply to Sherab Tenzin. Yes, it would be an extremely rare situation. Let me add that you can't call them rats in the temple, you are supposed to treat the like sons of the deity.

In reply to Sherab Tenzin. Sherab, well, for the faithful that may still be a very small cost. No, I don't think anyone was fined as most people who come here are devotees and they are extra careful. The rats also don't trouble the visitors, they are busy eating and drinking.

Wow, this is interesting. Never heard of rats being treated with so much of reverence and love. However, the punishment for accidentally stepping on rat getting it killed appeared very heavy. By chance did you ask people there on anyone being fined?

In reply to Mithun. Thank you, Mithun. Tell your wife that I am also very scared of rats but I managed to see the temple. It is quite a big temple and rats are used to having visitors, and more importantly, they are busy eating and drinking so they do not bother you.
