I felt it was much tame and took a safe route in comparison to some of the great movies from the Iranian school (Siddiq Barmak was trained in Iran). If you can, try to catch hold of movies by Abbas Kiorastami, Mohsen and Samira Makhmalbaf, Bahman Ghobadi and Majid Majidi. Kiorastami’s “A Taste of Cherry”, Ghobadi’s “Turtles can Fly” and Farroukh Farroukhazad’s “The House is Black” are must watch.
