Khajuraho should be good any time of the year. However Nov-Feb is always the best time anywhere in India.

Shivaji: MP tourism hotels are decent and reasonably priced. You do not need any transport once you are there, you can rent a cycle and do it on your own. Even walking around is possible if the weather allows it.
