I have been visiting kolkata since my childhood as my grandparents live here .Among places which are mentioned here I have visited a few.I liked hanseswari temple.I have never visited kolkata in durga puja ,I Know at that time the city is filled with beautiful pandals and I look forward to visit the city during this festival.

This is a brilliant piece of work! A perfect conglomeration of all Kalibari’s at Kolkata, I would like to pitch in about one more, at the outskirts near Bangladesh border. This Kalibari is called Prasanna moyee Ma, and is situated near Fairy Hall, Gobordanga, the then zamindar Bari of the area. It is a bonidhi Bari pujo and is ‘jagrata’ as well and folks travel miles together to bow their head in front of the goddess. What fascinates me more, is the origin. The then Zamindar had a dream where the Goddess instructed him to build a temple along with dadosh shib mandir around ( 12 Shiva temples ). The instructions were clear as to which karigar ( Craftsman ) should make the idol.( the same karigar built Dakshineshwar idol as well later on) . The bedi, or the seat on which the Goddess stands, should not be touched by any woman in the family or outside. Those who have dared to question the same, have only invoked harm. Everyone who seeks blessings, have always had their prayers answered. Such is the power of Devi Shakti. Kalibaris are now present in other cities like Mumbai and across continents, the spirit of all being the same. Strange it may seem, but most people who reside in the city are oblivious to these finer details which build the fabric of almost every Bengali.
