This time I was exploring Pushkar in collaboration with Westin Pushkar Resort & Spa. I love the fact that ancient Indian cities are now coming under the radar of global luxury hotel chains. They are providing an option to the luxury traveler to not only be on the pilgrimage but also relax in the relatively laid-back outskirts of the pilgrim town like Pushkar.
I reached around dusk after taking two flights and driving for 4 hours. As I entered the wide-open lobby of the resort, I felt relaxed. I lounged there sipping on my welcome drink, talking to Ravikant Pushkar, who was to be my guide for next 2 days. We spoke about the history and heritage of Pushkar, of places less explored by visitors and the little-known temples on the outskirts. Ready with a rough itinerary, I retired early to ensure an early start to the next day.
What I saw in Pushkar, you can see here on my detailed post – Pushkar, the city of Brahma.
Now let me tell you the reasons to consider Westin Pushkar for your next visit to Pushkar or Ajmer.
The food at Westin Pushkar
Options for food include dining at ‘Seasonal Tastes’ where you get buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner along with A la Carte options. You must try their Rajasthani Thali, and gorge on Daal Bati Churma. Ask them for the Lesua pickle that is made by the fruit from their own gardens. A conversation with the chef told me that since they are surrounded by fields all around, they source a lot of seasonal vegetables locally.

Panorama is a rood top dining area overlooking the swimming pool and sprawling gardens. However, I would suggest it for relaxed dining on a moon-lit night. I was traveling alone but it could be a romantic dinner if you are traveling with your partner.
My favorite meal at the resort was a wood baked Pizza from the Splash Grill. After 3 days of running around in Pushkar, I say down with my thin crust pizza loaded with vegetables and chatted with the friendly people at the resort. This is one of the best Pizza I have enjoyed, and by the way, Pasta was equally good.
Being a diabetic, I could not have many drinks or canned juices on the menu, so the creative F&B team made be innovative drinks with watermelon juice. I appreciate the extra effort they made to enhance my dining experience in Pushkar.
Luxury Rooms & Villas
Westin Pushkar primarily has luxury Villas, though they do have a small number of standard rooms. I stayed in the ground floor villa that comes with a private pool.
Villa is spacious in a suite like arrangement with a seating area and a sleeping area. Bathrooms are spacious as expected.
What I liked appreciated in the bathroom is the minimal use of plastic in their toiletries. Soaps and other consumables come wrapped in paper rather than plastic. Soap is interestingly shaped in a leaf shape rather than the usual square or round shape.
I would remember their welcome platter in the room with a Malpua, a Mini Ghevar and Jamun chips along with some savories. I loved each of the items on the platter and I would prefer it any day over the usual chocolates kept in the room.

Entertainment Options
In Rajasthan, you can never be far away from culture. The resort also arranges shows showcasing the Rajasthani culture through music and dance. Check out their activity board prominently displayed at the reception.
Apart from that, they have a lot of in-house activities like leaf painting or cooking classes to keep you actively engaged.
At night, just sit back, put your feet up and watch your favorite films in their in house theater.
Nature Walks
The resort is full of trees and surrounded by fields. So, I would strongly suggest going for birding in the morning as the sun rises. I could spot so many birds in the trees, even though it was summers and not really the birding time. Just follow their chirping. Walk on the stone steps on the water leading to the swimming pool or just relax by the pool on pool couches. Do not miss their brag-worthy Instagram friendly props for those perfect images to flaunt.
Step outside the resort and walk into a rose garden. Imagine a morning walk through the heavenly smell of fresh pink roses all around you.
Walk a little further into the Surajkund village towards the Surajkund Stepwell. You would find yourself walking through sunflower and Bajra fields. In the mornings and evenings, when the weather is usually cool in Pushkar, this can be a lovely nature walk.
Spa to Relax
If you are visiting Pushkar to pamper yourself, this resort has a lovely spa for you where you can shut off the world and let the staff help you rejuvenate.
They have a fitness center for those who like to exercise indoors, I prefer to walk in the open.
People at Westin Pushkar
While most of the things I mention above are kind of expected when you choose to stay at a brand like Westin, what impressed me most was the staff of this resort.
I saw them going the extra mile to ensure that every customer is well taken care of. At the restaurant, they would walk up to the guests and see they are enjoying their meals. Most importantly they did it with a smile on their faces.

The only disadvantage of the resort is its location, which is roughly 10 km and 15-20 minutes away from the main city. If you are driving to the resort, there is no problem, but if you are not, you would need a car to get in and out every time. Just keep that in mind.
I am told Pushkar is fast emerging as a wedding destination with many NRIs and Big city families interested in an ancient city with world-class properties.

Overall, I had a fantastic time at the resort. If and when I visit them next time, I will try and spend more time at the resort & allow them to pamper me even more. For more details checkout their website.
